Emissions Trading

Polish miners savagely attacked a peaceful Greenpeace
Poland demonstration today at the Jó?win IIB mine in Konin. Greenpeace activists where raising awareness about the Government’s myopic energy policy that sees no other source of power generation than coal. This blind policy has also been fuelling tensions among European leaders as the Polish Government has been bullying other countries to give them more money for doing nothing but burning coal. However, there are local voices who object to this destructive path. Alongside local residents, Greenpeace’s Climate Rescue Station, also held a peaceful demonstration with up to 400 members of local communities recently whose homes and livelihoods are threatened by this mine and the harmful energy policy. Poland has yet to implement the Large Combustion Plant Directive which instructs it to introduce technologies like Flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) that remove this dangerous local pollutant which has negative impacts on human and animal health as well as corrosive impacts on local infrastructures.
